‘Time to move on’: Mark Zuckerberg says he’s weary of Elon Musk stalling proposed cage fight

Mark Zuckerberg ended speculation about his proposed cage fight with Elon Musk on Sunday after months of taunts between the two billionaires, saying his Bay Area tech rival “isn’t serious.”

Mark Zuckerberg tried to put a stop to speculation about his proposed cage match fight with Bay Area tech rival Elon Musk on Sunday after months of public taunts between the moguls.

“I think we can all agree Elon isn’t serious and it’s time to move on,” Zuckerberg wrote Sunday on Threads, the Meta-created social media platform that launched earlier this year to challenge Musk’s Twitter, now rebranded as X.

The idea for a fight between two of the world’s richest men gained traction — and derision over toxic masculinity — after Tesla CEO Musk, who acquired Twitter for $44 billion last year, responded in June to a tweet about Zuckerberg’s rival service.

“I’m up for a cage match if he is,” Musk wrote, to which Zuckerberg replied via Instagram, “Send Me Location.”

The exchange prompted Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White to say that the men were “dead serious” about scheduling a cage match in Las Vegas. White said in late June that he had spoken with the two billionaires to gauge their interest in a high-stakes showdown inside the Vegas Octagon, where his company stages mixed martial arts fights.

Zuckerberg has a fighting cage in his Bay Area garden and has posted photos of himself sparring with UFC fighters. The 39-year-old boasts extensive training in mixed martial arts, including Brazilian jiu jitsu. He blamed Musk for delaying the fight.

“Elon won’t confirm a date, then says he needs surgery, and now asks to do a practice round in my backyard instead,” he wrote Sunday.

Zuckerberg ended his Threads message with a final taunt, writing, “If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me.”

Musk has fanned speculation about the proposed fight in recent weeks, even as his mother publicly condemned the cage match.

In response to tweets showcasing Musk’s training session with podcaster Lex Fridman on his 52nd birthday in late June, Maye Musk posted a series of messages disapproving of the bout and urged her son’s followers to stop encouraging the match.
